The Future of Primary Health Care in
___________________________________________________________________________________
The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa has been working for many years in the area of research and training in healthcare economics and management.
Its aim has always been to promote tools and strategies in order to improve organization and management in the public healthcare system and to develop a managerial and organizational culture in the institutions that are part of it.
The mission of the Management and Health Laboratory (MHL) is to strengthen the founding values behind the public healthcare system, to study its specific needs and to promote organizational and managerial innovation, thus advancing the cause of better healthcare, and managerial know-how for those who work in healthcare systems.
The MHL was founded in December
Managerial Training for “high-potential” players in the Tuscan healthcare system.
Applied research, in order to support the subjects within the healthcare system in the process of organizational change and managerial innovation.
Performance evaluation, in order to assess the capacity of each healthcare institution to be efficient and effective, both within the area of operation and the regional system. To achieve this goal, the MHL first designed and then implemented the Performance Evaluation System
In 2008 the Liguria Region (Liguria Regional Authority) signed a cooperation agreement, which was renewed in 2009, with the MHL and adopted the Performance Evaluation System.
In 2009 the Umbria Region (Umbria Regional Authority) and the Piemonte Region (Piemonte Regional Authority) joined the Performance Evaluation Project.
The MHL has been constantly devoting many of its resources to the performance evaluation issue; in this perspective, it decided to set up the CATI centre (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing), whose specific objective is to identify the experiences and degree of satisfaction felt by citizens (users and non-users) concerning the various healthcare services.
